blog submissions...

4/12/2018

We have all heard the news. A major wedding blog full of beautiful inspiration has decided to close up shop.  I have seen countless comments and posts on social media...some are sad of the closing, some think it will be better for our industry.  I do not know the details behind this decision, nor do I feel I need to know.

What I do know, is that I love getting inspiration from all kinds of wedding blogs. Our local  Confetti Magazine;  Dote Weddings; and Rocky Mountain Bride are just a few of my favourites.

I feel that as creatives, it is up to us each, personally in our crafts, art, life & professions, to create what is dearest to our hearts.  If you feel slighted because a 'big time blog' declined your submission, don't be offended.  Move on.  There are so many great blogs out there.  Create new!  Submit elsewhere!!

I'm very proud of the features I have had, but I have had projects declined too.  Each blog has a checklist of items they like to see in the images submitted.  Some are detail heavy, some are scenery heavy, some want to see animals...others only want to see family.  None of those checklists are wrong.  But if you create a styled shoot filled with scenery shots...I wouldn't bother sending it to the detail heavy blog!  Ya know what I mean??  haha

I used styled shoots to further the growth of my business.  I do a lot of them.  I enjoy it.  I get a lot of questions about what to do, who to call, where to start...this is why I started these workshops.  They have evolved, and they will continue to evolve, but the main reason we started is still the same.

Our workshops are here to foster the growth of a community of creatives.  People who love what they do, and they just want to share it...share it with anyone and everyone...feature or not!  We take great pride in what we do!

Each workshop we plan has a full styled shoot vendor team.  We create a beautifully styled set.  We invite you to join us.  We give you opportunities to learn, to create, to foster relationships, to enjoy what you do without any expectations more then proudly sharing what we do as a group!!

...and in that spirit, we will be asking for submissions to our blog, to share what you create.  We will offer a badge to our workshop attendees and featured guests so you can proudly display that you have used your creations to further your growth in business, and this industry.  That is always something to be proud of.  We will share more about submissions at the workshop.

As an attendee to our workshops, you will be issued an attendee badge

We really hope you will submit your images to us to feature on our blog as well.

I truly believe we have put together an event that will serve you and your creative heart well.  I hope you can join us, this time, next time, or every time!

...and answers
hey all!  I had a few questions about the workshop the other day...and I got to thinking, maybe more of you have the same questions....so, I'm here to answer all your questions!!

Q:   'I'm not sure I'm experienced enough to interact with other professionals in the industry yet, are you sure it's for me?'
A:   YES!!  It is for EVERYONE!!  new to the industry...or in the industry for years...this is a place for everyone.  I think we all stand to learn a lot from every person in the room!!!

Q:   'I'm shy; I won't know anyone; who will I sit with....'
A:  I hear ya!  I was like that when I first started going to industry mixers! My husband would drop me off at an industry mixer and have to drive away before I jumped back in the car to leave!!  I'm so glad I took that leap, started introducing myself to industry people, and become friends with many of them.  This is an open network of professionals who are there to learn with and from each other, and who want everyone in the room to succeed.  You will know everyone by the time the workshop is over, and you will have lots of people to sit with and to talk to!!

Q:   'Why do I need to do a workshop about styled shoots??'
A:   I have to say, I wish I had something like this to go to before I began doing styled shoots.  I started these workshops because I spent many hours a week chatting with people about who to call, who to ask for what, where to go....there were so many people who didn't have any idea where to even start...and I was there once too!!!  So, what better way to get all that info...in one place, with lots of networking, lots of pretty things, in an incredible venue, etc.

Q:  'Can't I find out about publications online?'
A:  Yes.  The technical info is all online.  But when you are looking at that info online, and have questions...there is no one to ask in person.  We bring the publishing experts right to you.  They are there to walk you through the 'how to' and answer all of your questions!!

Q:  'I'm not a photographer, so what do I do when they are shooting the sets?'
A:    I understand that! I'm no photographer either!!!  There will be lots for you to do.  We will also be doing hands on styling with the stylists & florist,  and we will have a head shot station set up; also, there is a social media session; and two magazine & online publisher sessions...and of course lots of fun!!!!

I sure hope I answered all the questions you have, but please let me know if you are still wondering about anything!    I look forward to 'workshoppin' with y'all!!

We are so excited to welcome Vicki from Pretty Sweet Co to the
vendor line up for our May Workshop!!

Picture

Pretty Sweet is all about making sweets taste as good as they look and vice versa.
We try to celebrate desserts beyond the cupcake (although we do make a pretty mean cupcake if we say so ourselves…) and bring forth an inspired product from beginning to end.
A modern interpretation of old school recipes and the awesomest ingredients that can be found is what makes us pretty sweet.
From custom wedding cakes, or french macarons, to or dainties just like your granny used to make, we strive for excellence in everything that comes out of our kitchen.
Life is pretty sweet.

Vicki Manness is the founder of Pretty Sweet and she has eaten a lot of baking in her life. With Red Seal certification for Cooking and Baking under her belt she prides herself with having an exceptional palate for taste and smell.
From a young age she knew she wanted to share her gift with others and hopes to do just that with Pretty Sweet.
Vicki is also the Food Editor of Dote Magazine, a new Calgary Arts & Lifestyle Magazine.

I can personally tell you...run, don't walk, to get your next treat from Vicki and the team at Pretty Sweet!!  nomnomnom
