Styled Shoots...they can be daunting. I remember my first styled shoot like it was yesterday! I had no idea what I was doing...and really didn't quite understand why I was doing it! All I knew for sure, is that I wanted to work with this photographer someday, and I couldn't believe she asked me to be part of the vision she had!!!
With all my knew found clarity...and a new found craving to create pretty designs...I was soon saying yes to every photo shoot I was asked to participate in. I'll admit, that was a mistake. Don't get me wrong...each and every shoot brought a lot of experience my way! Being asked to be part of styled shoots was a dream...and I loved it...but I wasn't always getting back the images I wanted or needed from the person who had contacted me. I realized how shoots could be damaging to a business, and started making changes to my practice. This has been invaluable to how I operate!! I started planning & designing my own shoots. This allowed me to build relationships with vendors. To meet them in person and learn what they want to get from a styled shoot too. I learned even more from this process! I learned there was a lack of consistent production. From sharing on social media; proper tagging of all the vendors & the etiquette of building your team...there was so much that vendors weren't doing to boost their own community & businesses. So we put an idea to into action! My husband jokingly suggested I host a workshop where I could help other vendors to use styled shoots to help grow their community and businesses too. Hours later...the first baby workshop in this series was born! (I have to mention that my son, Hunter, named the Workshop...no really...he did...and he wants me to mention it! haha) ~ Thank you to Melanie of Grey Lil Photography for helping me create this cute logo ~ Images from our first workshop can be found on our Past Workshops Tab... 11 workshops ago!!!! Can you believe that! We have produced eleven workshops in the series!! During that very first workshop...I realized this was a good idea. With multiple people asking when the next one was...we made a plan...on the spot! We learned a lot the first time around. We learn a lot from each session we host...there is always room for growth! Workshop # 1 Attendees & Vendors The series of workshops has grown. We have grown into portfolio builders; we have brought flat lays to the people; we have turned an over night stay into a full blown retreat week; we have dined under the trees & had a holiday dinner together as a team; we have carried cast iron tubs into an old church & stepped into a shower with our models; we have canoed a small lake in Canmore; and taken attendees to the top of a glacier via helicopter for an exciting first look (for real!) and we even had a real elopement...and we are adding more to the series of sessions as we grow again! The years of styled shoots; the hundreds of designs; the vendor relationships...all of these are so important to me & building this Community & Workshop Series. These workshops mean so much to me. If you have ever seen me at the end of the day trying to thank everyone, then you have seen the tears of gratitude and appreciation. The support of you, our attendees & the vendors who put their trust in me...this is what inspires me. So, I bring you my experience. My time. My research. My education of styled shoots. Real life. Real time. Real Experience. I believe in building a community where we can support one another, help each other grow our businesses, and styled shoots can be a catalyst for that. So, I invite you to join us at one of our sessions. thank you friends
